Prepared from the balsam of Myroxylon balsamum, this medicine acts deeply on the mucous membranes, respiratory tract, gastrointestinal system, and skin. It is especially indicated where there are thick, offensive, mucous or purulent discharges and chronic catarrhal conditions with debility.

Key Indications

Respiratory Catarrh & Phthisis

• Dry cough with scraping in larynx (often in forenoon)
• Mucous or purulent expectoration
• Useful in bronchitis and mucous-type phthisis (tubercular states)
• Lung abscess tendency (vomica formation)
• Chronic respiratory catarrh with weakness

Nasal & Upper Respiratory Discharge

• Profuse, thick nasal discharge
• Bleeding from right nostril without irritation or sneezing
• Ozæna with ulceration and foul discharge
• Persistent catarrhal irritation

Throat Irritation

• Scraping sensation in throat (fauces)
• Chronic irritation due to mucous accumulation

Gastrointestinal Catarrh

• Gastric catarrh with vomiting of food and mucus
• Painless, copious mucous diarrhoea
• Passage of blood with stool (not piles-related)
• Digestive weakness with mucous involvement

Urinary & Bladder Catarrh

• Frequent or copious urination (polyuria)
• Urine may be scanty with mucous sediment
• Cutting, sticking pain in urethra
• Useful in catarrhal cystitis

Skin & Ulcerative Conditions

• Ulcers, cracks (rhagades)—especially nipples and fingers
• Itching eruptions, eczema-like conditions
• Skin irritation with chronic discharge tendency

General Debility & Chronic States

• Hectic fever with weakness and emaciation
• Suited for chronic disease states (especially tubercular)
• Low vitality with persistent mucous discharges

Extremities & Bone Pain

• Oppressive pain in right wrist
• Deep, boring pain in tibia (often left-sided)
